Hydraulic oil and heat
NBR is the default for mineral hydraulic oil. FKM where temperature or fluid chemistry is harder on the seal.
Dirt, grit and water
Wiper and dust seals clean the rod before it retracts. Bellows keep muck off rods and joints on site.
Pressure
Guide rings and backup rings hold the seal in place when pressure tries to push it into the clearance gap.
Weather on site
UV, rain and temperature swings. EPDM or silicone where weather rather than oil is the problem.
